We regularly get asked to refer people to reliable, affordable and quality tradespeople for various jobs
around the home. As everyone knows, good tradespeople are hard to find,
especially those that know about environmental and non-toxic products!
Using the power of the web, we will soon be
publishing an online database of recommended tradies Australia-wide (currently

Vol 2 (Issue
8) May 2004
|
|
Dear
Reader,
These
past few weeks have been hectic as we get things ready for the official launch
of the Evacuated Tube Solar Hot Water System at this month's Sydney Home Show (May 13-16, Sydney
Exhibition Centre, darling Harbour).
Evacuated Tube
Solar Water Heaters are a revolutionary new, planet-saving water heating technology that
are up to 40% more efficient than flat plate solar systems. Existing storage
water heaters (Electric or gas) can also be retro-fitted with an Evacuated Tube Solar Hot Water System making
them up to 75% more efficient, slashing water heating costs and greenhouse
emissions.
We
invite you to visit us at the Sydney Home Show (Stand O54) - see story
below "Evacuated Tube Solar Hot Water System - Planet Saving Technology".
May
also sees the launch of the new website for the Building Sustainability Index
(BASIX). BASIX becomes mandatory for all new houses in Sydney from July 1st
this year and for all NSW on July 1st, 2005. If you are planning a new home, you
need to check your BASIX compliance - see story below "Is your new home
BASIX-compliant?"
This
month we feature the
Non-Conventional Eco-Homes Tour - an innovative and well-organised tour of
eco homes in Taree and districts plus informative workshops (Taree/Hastings
Valley, June Long Weekend Sat-Mon June 12-14).
One
of the Directors of Ecological Homes, Tim Walsh, will also be presenting a
series of workshops at the North Sydney Community Centre on 2 key eco housing
issues:
As
always, we welcome your thoughts and feedback on the newsletter and stories
related to the environment. The deadline for contributions to the next issue
(June 2004) is May 28th 2004. Send
us your feedback or stories
Thanks

Environmental
Housing Workshops in North Sydney
|
|
Workshops provide a great way for people to
immerse themselves for a couple of hours in aspects of environmental housing
that are of interest.
Tim Walsh, a Director of Ecological Homes, will
be presenting 2 workshops in North Sydney offering insights, handy advice and
affordable solutions for each topic covered:
THE SICK HOUSE
SYNDROME
(7-9.30pm, Tues June 1, North Sydney
Community Centre - $45)
Research shows that the quality of the air
inside your home can be 2 to 3 times more toxic than the air outdoors! Many
things we put into our homes are the source of toxic materials which are slowly
released into our living environment. When you paint your home with standard
toxic paint, the indoor air quality can be up to 1,000 times worse than the air
outdoors. Healthy, effective and affordable non-toxic alternatives exist. This
session will explore ways you can decorate or renovate your home resulting in a
healthier living environment.
RAINWATER
HARVESTING
(7-9.30pm, Thurs 17 June, North Sydney
Community Centre - $45)
Australia is the world's driest inhabited
continent and is experiencing more frequent and more severe drought conditions.
Most Australian cities have had water restrictions in place for 12 months or
more with little prospect of these restrictions being eased. This session
explores rainwater harvesting solutions for the average home plus low cost water
saving devices that can be easily installed.
Bookings: Phone (02) 9922 2299
Book early as Participant
Numbers
are Limited for Both Workshops
